Ronald McDonald House Dinner: Would you like to cook a meal for a family going through a rough time? We will be preparing dinner for the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House on Sunday, August 1. Participants will need to contribute to the meal being prepared and arrive at the Ronald McDonald House prior to dinner to prepare the meal. A set of guidelines is available on the information table. Baptism: Join us Sunday, August 1 as we baptize members of our NorthStar family during our worship service! If you would like to be baptized or have questions about baptism let us know on your Connection Card.
Family Performing Arts Concessions: For 5 consecutive Wednesday nights starting July 21, Clifton Park offers free, children-oriented performing arts concerts. We will be giving away FREE concessions at each concert to be a good neighbor and show God's love in a practical way. If you would like to give out free popcorn, snow cones, or cotton candy, sign up at the information table for one or several of the Wednesday nights. It's also a great way to meet people at church. Volunteers will need to arrive by 6pm to set up. The event starts at 7pm and lasts for an hour.
Shop with a Star: School is starting in just a few weeks, and with it comes the added pressure of purchasing not only a long list of school supplies, but also basic necessities such as new clothing and shoes for growing kids. For many families in our area, this is a financial burden they are unable to carry on their own. On Saturday, Aug. 28, we will be partnering with Kohl's Department Store and Cheryl's Lodge. Children from Turf Trailer Park will be teamed up with a member of NorthStar Church to go shopping at Kohl's with a $100 gift card which we provide. If you would like to be a Star Shopper, let us know on your Connection Card. We need at least 30 shoppers! This is one of the many ways we put our faith in action.
Fresh Start Bags: For the next 2 Sundays we will be collecting hygiene products to distribute to the kids participating in "Shop with a Star." Items needed include toothpaste, toothbrushes, body wash or soap, and shampoo. Items must be brought to the lobby or church office by August 21. Each child will receive a gift bag with the donated products. Let's work together to get local kids off to a fresh start!
Vacation Bible School: VBS is a summer tradition! Until we get our own facility, we encourage interested families to check out the VBS offered by our friends at Clifton Park Center Baptist Church. This year's VBS, "High Seas Expedition," is running from August 9-13, 9am to noon. This program is for children 4 years of age-8th grade. Church Fellowship Day: On Sunday, August 22 the entire Shen campus will be closed. In place of our normal service, please join us for a church-wide cookout and softball game at the Jonesville Fire House. It will be a day of fun, food, and fellowship as we give our volunteers a well-deserved break. Bring your glove, lawn chair, and a side dish or dessert to share. The softball game will start at 10am with a cookout to follow. Get ready for a new game of tug of war! There will be activities for the kids too. Wheel of Questions: We need your help with the next sermon series! We are looking for some questions you've always wanted to ask about faith but never have. Write your questions on the Connection Card and place it in an offering box. Pastor Roscoe will try to answer as many as he can in our annual series "The Wheel of Question."
Add1 Mini Golf: On Thursday, August 19, Add1 will be going to play miniature golf at Player's Park from 6-8pm. Drop-off and pick-up will be at the Clifton Park Senior Center. The cost is $8 per student. Handouts for this event will be located on the information table in the lobby or you can visit our website at http://add1youth.weebly.com. Clothing Swap!: Clean out the kids' closets and bring their gently used clothing to the church picnic at the Jonesville Fire Dept. on August 22. You will be able to see what others have brought and choose clothing that fits your children now. All sizes are needed from infant through teens. You can drop off clothing starting the week of August 1 either by the main entrance or by the God's Growing Garden registration table. Foundations for the Future Update Meeting: If you have committed to our capital campaign, Foundations for the Future, or if you are a regular giver to our "Future Home Fund" or would like to know more about it, we would like to invite you to an informational meeting on Tuesday, September 21 at 6:30pm in the Shen Senior Center located at 6 Clifton Common Court. At this meeting we will update you on the progress of the campaign and answer any questions you might have. The meeting will last no longer than an hour.
Habitat for Humanity Women Build Day: Join fellow women in helping to build a house for Habitat for Humanity in Schenectady. This is an awesome opportunity to get to know other women at NorthStar and participate in building a house entirely by women. This is a one-day event on September 18, 2010 from 8-3pm. Ladies' Mani-Pedi Night!: Treat yourself to a little pampering with the women of NorthStar! Join us on Saturday, August 28 at Nails Design, 54 Crossing Blvd, Clifton Park (near Kohl's and Target). Spa pedicures are only $23! Or you can get a pedicure and manicure for only $30. We have the nail salon all to ourselves, so join us between 6:30-8:30pm (first come, first serve) for finger foods, fun, and fellowship! Blazing Stars: Join us for fitness and fellowship! The Blazing Stars North are meeting at the Saratoga State Park on Wednesdays at 6pm. Each week we will meet in the parking lot of the Gideon Putnam. Babysitter Cards: Looking for a night out with your spouse or a short break during the day? We have provided a list of babysitters from our church who would love to help you out!
