Every day is a new day. Every day we get a clean slate that we can use to start over and to start anew. Today, things can change. People make a lot of resolutions each year to start on a fitness routine and then usually don’t keep their resolutions. What should our perspective as Christians be about our bodies? God cares about your body. It matters how you treat it and how you take care of it. Eating itself can be an act of worship. It’s a stewardship issue how we take care of the body that God gave to us. Do the things to your body that don’t come naturally. Control your body instead of being controlled by your body. Discipline and training reflect back on God. Take care of your body so that when you share your message with others, it will glorify God. Why does your body matter to God?

1) Because God created our body. Unlike when God created the animals, birds, fish and insects, when He created us, He got personally involved. He got his hands dirty and blew his own breath into the dirt to create us. God put us here on purpose. He created us with forethought and intentionality. Health is so important. Images in the media are unreal and unattainable. The scary part is that teenagers buy into those images that are computer-enhanced, air-brushed and made-over. Rather than become weight and look obsessed, take care of your health to honor the Lord. Parents, tell your children that God gave them the body they’re supposed to have and that God doesn’t make mistakes. Maybe we’re not supposed to be a size zero but keep the body you have healthy and fill it with only what it needs. Don’t over-indulge.

2) Because your body is the temple of the Lord. The Holy Spirit lives inside of you. The reverence and awe you feel when you walk into a beautiful church is exactly the same respect and awe you should have for your body. What you do with your body is reflected in your spirit and you can’t separate the two. God wants to protect you emotionally and physically and that’s why He asks us to only have sex within the sanctuary of marriage Emotionally, we have the safety and love of our spouses for that act of intimacy. Physically, God wants to protect us from diseases which is why He asks us to be monogamous. Parents, speak to your children and tell them to honor God with their bodies. God says sex should occur only between one man and one woman who are married for life.

3) Because your body serves God. We don’t worship our body. We use our body for worship. We can’t carry out the great Commandments without our bodies. We use our voices to encourage others, to sing, and to tell of goodness. We use our hands to lift up, to serve and to help. God wants you to keep your body healthy so you can continue to do His works. Exercise, rest, healthy eating and watching your cholesterol, blood sugar and high blood pressure will keep your body strong enough to fulfill God’s purpose. Jesus assumes that you will carry on and do his good works but you have to have a strong, healthy body to do it. We need to be a people who not only read God’s word but who live God’s word. Moderation and control will help us attain this goal.

Accept Jesus as your life manager and Savior. View your body as a gift from God. Honor God in what you eat and drink. Reject the ridiculous images of beauty presented to me by pop culture.

In case you haven’t had a chance to say goodbye and wish them well, this is the last week the Mcleods will be with us at NorthStar. Pastor G and family have opened a church in Schenectady and will continue to show God’s Love in that community.

Pastor Grantley, Joyce and little Grant have greatly impacted the lives of many here at NorthStar. Over the past two years the Mcleods have served in a number of ministries including God’s Growing Garden, leading the Add One youth Group, and leading several sessions of Growth Groups. They truly have a heart for service and were always willing to help NorthStar in our quest to serve others and show God’s Love.

Pastor Grantley, Joyce and Grant II are indeed a very “COOL” family! They’ve developed some great friendships here at NorthStar and will be missed tremendously.

Keep in touch and encourage them as they begin this new chapter in their lives. E-mail them at jandgmcleod@yahoo.com.

It’s been a couple of weeks but am still amazed by the generosity of our Church!

Over $15,000 was given towards this year’s Come Together Christmas Offering! Pastor Roscoe commended everyone at NorthStar for excelling at the grace of giving! Every family in our church gave towards the CTCO while still contributing to our general offering!

We truly did “come together” for our community, for missions and for worship! Thank you!

“Just as you excel in everything else- in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness… see that you also excel in the grace of giving.”
-2 Corinthians 8:7 (NIV)

This is the time of year where everybody sets goals. There are two known ways to accomplish goals that you set: 1) write it down; and 2) share it with others to give yourself accountability. If you want to change your life and achieve your goals that you’ve set for yourself, you need to change your habits. Your choices in life are usually based on habits and your life is defined by those habits. Goals need to be specific, measurable and attainable. Get specific Replace the bad habits with good. Establish habits to let your children see how important your faith is to you like praying with them, going to church, and reading the Bible with them. What are some habits that you need to establish to grow closer to God? Consistency is the key. If habits are what define us, what habits will you need to have to grow in your faith with Christ?

1) Establish the habit of daily Bible Reading. Everything that God wants us to know about him and his will can be found in the Bible. Change your habits and make a plan to read through the Bible in the next year. On the NorthStar website, www.northstarchurch.com, there are Bible reading plans for every need. Write down, as you read, what God is showing you and teaching you. Your soul needs nourishment and daily alone time with God so it’s important to read your Bible. Be accountable. Let us know you’re doing it by writing down on your Connection Card that you plan to read the entire Bible within the next year.

2) Establish the habit of constant conversation with God. Include God in every area of your life. Include Him in every conversation, every idea, every decision with prayer. Prayer isn’t an obligation or duty or to only be used in an emergency. Instead it’s an on-going conversation with God about what you care deeply about in your life. If you feel you can’t even pray anymore because of things that have happened in your life, be lifted up by remembering that God is able and God wants to be involved and do for us. It’s a new day Don’t give up.

3) Establish the habit of thankful giving. God funds his purpose and his initiatives through his church. God is looking for faithful people to bless. God is looking for you as a person who is trustworthy and will be a conduit to Him. Recognize that blessings come from God. Give God’s treasures that he blesses you with back out to others.

4) Establish the habit of community. You were made for relationships – with God and with other people. Growth Groups help you be part of the community. If you think you don’t need any help from anyone, you need to sign up for a Growth Group right away. Get connected. You are cheating yourself out of such riches if you don’t. Growth Groups create relationships that matter.

Ask Jesus today to forgive you of your sins. Devote yourself to the habits necessary for spiritual maturity. Commit to read the entire Bible this year. Join a Growth Group.

God loves you passionately. Don’t give up. Don’t quit. Every morning, God gives you a new supply of mercy, a new supply of hope and every day God gives you just what you need to get through the day. Jesus Christ has forgiven you of your past. You need to now forgive yourself. The cross helps us accept the forgiveness of Jesus and move forward in your life and in your heart.

We’re one week into the New Year and many goals have already been set. Just wondering what some of those resolutions are?!

Many of us, as Pastor Roscoe and Kristen Burke suggested, have resolved to read through the Bible in just one year! Perhaps your resolution is to grow closer in your relationship to God. Perhaps it’s to exercise more, eat healthier, and spend more time with the family. Or maybe you’ve resolved to dance more, sing louder, or play harder!

Whatever it is, we’d love to hear about the goals you’ve set for 2008!

Special Thanks to Pam Wang for the AWESOME sermon recaps she writes for the blog each week! For those who are unable to attend service, Pam does a wonderful job of keeping everyone up to speed with key points from each sermon. Sermons are available to listen to online or download directly to your iPod. However, if time is limited, Pam makes it simple for everyone to get caught up in just a few minutes!

Thanks Pam!!

Trust is one of those things that we constantly seem to struggle with. Can we really trust anyone? There is someone you can always trust. He is always in your corner and He knows just the plans that are in place for you. Jesus Christ can always be trusted

1) Make a decision. Every day, we have to make decisions. We decide how to raise our children, how to handle our finances, how to treat our spouse. God says to trust in Him when it comes to making those decisions. Even if things don’t work out and go well, God has your back. He doesn’t want us to trust with our feelings and emotions because once those get involved, we can go in the opposite direction of God’s will. He wants us to trust with our hearts.

2) Decide to depend on God. God says our ways are not His ways. He is in complete control and sometimes things don’t appear the way they really are. He knows better than we do what we need and the way we should go. We need to trust Him with our entire life, every day in every way.

3) Allow God to direct us. Each and every one of us are where we are for a particular reason. It’s not a mistake that you are where you are. You’re here to hear something that God has to tell you. We need to trust him and allow him to direct our path. God wants to take us where we need to be when we need to be there. He wants to allow us to be a blessing on others and to allow them to be a blessing on us. Read His word and pray and things will be okay. Have faith. Trust Him with your heart and not with your emotions. That way, you will be following God’s path for you instead of following your own.
